Author of the Week: PaigeD Interview

Week of September 6, 2010

Author of Mine To Know, Yours To Tell, Book of the Week

PaigeD looks up from her notepad to the laptop sitting in front of her. She sees a message from a fellow inkpopper and a blogger who wants to interview her. Paige jumps up and starts jumping around, excited but nervous. What if this blogger is a fraud, what if something goes wrong, what if she answers the questions with a weird answer? The thought flies out of her head and lands on the laptop, where a new message was. It read, Dear PaigeD, congratulations! You are Inkpopper of the Week and your book Mine To Know, Yours To Tell is Book of the Week, message me as soon as possible. Whoa.

*How does it feel to be interviewed?*
It feels great! I’ve never been interviewed before, so this is pretty cool! Especially when it’s about writing. What better topic could I ever be interviewed for?

*How does it feel that someone noticed your work and wanted to make it Book of the Week?*
Awesome! I was so excited when I found out because I’ve been trying to get my work out in the open for so long! And since I just started the book only about a month ago, this is great because it’s so soon after I put it up. I’m so happy that it’s being read and enjoyed.

*How did you get the idea for "Mine To Know, Yours To Tell?"*
I don’t really know how the idea came to me, but I wrote it down sometime in March earlier this year. It was originally planned with the same characters, except Damien would have been a jerk with no interest in his daughter whatsoever and he’d also have a knack for partying and the regular things that actors and actresses get busted for. That story had no plot, so when I came back to it later, I tweaked it and made it into something that would (hopefully) be unexpected and unique. Thus, I came up with what I had now.

*If you could choose anyone to play Madison, Sadie, Matt and of course Damien Fields who would you choose?*
Hmm…if I could choose an actress to play Maddy, it’d have to be Alexandra Daddario. Her co-star in Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief, Logan Lerman, would play Matt, and Sadie would be played by Spencer Locke. I know this is a bit clich√©, but I’d honestly have my first pick be Leonardo DiCaprio for the part of Damien. He’s a heartthrob in real life too, and he has the blue eyes and brown hair already, so why not?

*How did you begin writing?*
I began writing a really long time ago. It started maybe around when I was in first grade and I wrote a picture book called Just a Vegetable Garden or something like that. Then I started writing longer stories through sixth grade, and when I go back and read those, I realize that for a fourth grader, they’re pretty good. The spelling and grammar wasn’t so hot, but that can be fixed. The whole time I didn’t think I’d ever want to be a writer, and there was actually a time when that was the very last thing I wanted to do.

*Is there anything you're working on right now?*
I’m mostly working on Mine to Know, Yours to Tell. I’ll sometimes take a few minutes to type up a quick (and not very poetic) poem, or I’ll start a short story, which is rare because I can’t work short because I’m used to writing novels. One of my short stories is actually the basis of a movie Maddy watches being filmed later in the book when she’s on-location with her dad.

*If writing doesn't work out, what would you do?*
Professional super-hero ninja… No, actually I’d like to take a stab at journalism even though anything non-fiction really stumps me. And as a last resort, I’d become an English teacher, even though I really don’t think my patience can last that long, so I’m really hoping that I can be like J.K. Rowling or Stephanie Meyer and make a killing off my books. Every writer’s dream, right?
*What are you reading at this moment?*
I’m reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. But I keep getting distracted by other amazing books on Inkpop and homework… I have too much to do. I swear, I’m never bored. Inkpop, writing, or reading; that’s pretty much all I do in my free time.

Quirky Q's
*If a strange man was to search your Ipod, what would he find?*
A lot of Coldplay, some Taylor Swift, and a dash of Michael Jackson. There are a lot of random songs mixed in there somewhere. Some Lady Gaga, a classical song, and anything that has a beat I can dance to (not in public, though).
*If you went to Starbucks, what would you order?*
Hot chocolate. I’m not a coffee drinker yet.
*If a stranger offered you a trip to anywhere in the world, where would you go?*
Somewhere warm with lots of trees. Or a tropical place like Hawaii. Basically, if it’s beautiful, I’m there.
*If your best friend ordered a pizza with olives on it, what would you do?*
Pick ‘em off and throw them on my friend’s pizza. Hey, they ordered it in the first place. Death by olives — taboo territory.
*What is one of your hidden talents?*
I’m good at art. I had to walk back into my art class the other day to get a forgotten eraser and my teacher gave me a hug and told me I was a good student because she barely had to tell me directions and I would do well anyway. High school experiences just got a whole lot more interesting…

Extra Q

*If you had the chance to be interviewed again, would you?*
Of course! This has been awesome!
